Bedding with the Seasons

LEARN WHY YOU SHOULD CHANGE YOUR BEDDING WITH THE SEASONS

As we all (finally!) transition from the chilly, dark days of winter to the bright and sunny summer days ahead, it’s the perfect time to swap out your bedding with the seasons! While it may sound daunting to switch your bedding with the weather, it’s even easier than changing your wardrobe from chunky wool sweaters to breezy tees. In fact, investing in a few solid pieces for your bedroom is fairly simple and can help ensure quality, restful sleep year-round!

Why You Should Change Your Bedding With the Seasons

You don’t truly need to change your linens with every season, but it’s incredibly helpful and beneficial to swap them out based on temperature.

As the spring-like weather finally makes its appearance, many of us are itching to spend our days in the sun. From boat rides to gardening, and fire pits and picnics, warmer days and all the fun they bring are just ahead! By setting your bed up to match the weather, you’ll give yourself a perfect place to land after a full day. Warmer months = lighter, more breathable fabrics. Cold months = heavier, cozier layers.

Beyond the obvious benefit of helping you stay warm or cool, updating your bedding can give your room a refreshed look for the season. Think luxurious textures in the winter (velvets and flannels!) and crisp, simple options in the summer (linens and cottons!).

How to Dress Your Bedding for the Season

So how do you make the switch from colder months to warmer months?

To start, change your comforter or duvet. For winter months you may have a heavy down comforter or layered blankets. As you move into warmer temperatures, those layers and thick blankets can be stiflingly hot. Try replacing your duvet insert with a lightweight down alternative blanket or a cotton coverlet. If you’re worried about being cold at night, toss a waffle blanket on top.

Next, consider your sheets. For colder months, flannel or jersey sheets are often popular for keeping you extra warm and cozy. In the summer, the best fabrics for keeping you cool are cotton, bamboo, and linen. These crisp options are breathable and temperature-regulating to prevent overheating on warm nights.

Finally, swap out your throw pillows with ones that match the ambience and style of the season. While winter may call for more moody, thick pillows in velvets, heavy patterns or faux fur, warmer months are perfect for simple colors (we love khakis!), stripes and lightweight fabrics. Again, think cotton and linen fabrics to keep your bed looking fresh for summer!
